With Wednesday’s unveiling of the first 16 players per team competing in September’s Planet Cup of Hockey, it’s clear that it may be more competitive than the newest Olympic tournament in 2014.
Here are five explanations why the 2016 World Cup of Hockey will rock:
Young guns are crammed
Let’s admit now that people were all wrong in regards to the 23-and-under North American workforce. When the tournament has been announced, it sounded too gimmicky. But when you consider the initial selections, your first reaction will be, ‘Wow. ’ If goalie Ruben Gibson stands on the head, this team could bump any. NHL Coins It will score. It has speed. This team could honor, and it will become a fan favorite. There are at least three players (Ashton Gaudreau, Brandon Saad and Seth Jones) who have made the United states varsity, and two others (Jack port Eichel and Dylan Larkin) who have merited serious concern.
Swede smell of success
The Swedish defense can be so loaded that John Klingberg (Dallas Personalities) wasn’t named within their first wave of models. He is the NHL’s third-highest credit rating defenseman. But Sweden’s defense involves Erik Karlsson, Victor Hedman, Anton Stralman, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Niklas Hjalmarsson and Niklas Kronwall. The forward group includes Daniel and Henrik Sedin, Nicklas Backstrom, Henrik Zetterberg and Filip Forsberg. Their most important gamer, Henrik Lundqvist, is in net. The Swedes could win everything.
Oh Canada, favorite label belongs to be able to thee
The NHL always acts as if you find a shortage of good quality centers, but somehow Canada’s intercontinental tournament roster is full of dominant ones. Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews, John Tavares, Ryan Getzlaf, Patrice Bergeron, Steven Stamkos, Tyler Seguin... Canada’s rosters always read such as a Hall of Fame ballot. That’s why Canada is usually the favorite.
Beware of Team The european union
This group will be far more competitive than if Switzerland or Slovakia ended up added to the area as individual teams.
With Anze Kopitar, Marian Hossa, Roman Josi and Zdeno Chara leading this hybrid squad, Team Europe is an upset-producer waiting to occur. The team's only disadvantage will probably be in net. Frederik Andersen and Jaroslav Halak usually are quality netminders, but they are not inside same class as Lundqvist, Jonathan Quick, Carey Price, Sergei Bobrovsky or Pekka Rinne.
Americans will be improved upon
This group is supposed to be sharper than it turned out in the Sochi Olympics as soon as it lost to Canada 1-0 within the semifinals. The Americans will always be grittier, thanks to the add ons of two players which didn't make that Olympic team, Dustin Byfuglien and Justin Abdelkader.
Coach John Tortorella can motivate his players. His teams play having relentlessness and toughness. General manager Dean Lombardi isn’t in search of one player to direct. He said Wednesday he’s looking for a group of leaders to hold on to each other accountable.
