News.Amid COVID-19 pandemic, Premier League stars to play in FIFA 20 tournament
The Premier League, the highest level of English football, is hosting an esports tournament since the real season has been put on hold. The event, the ePremier League Invitational tournament, will include celebrities and pro players from all 20 current Premier League clubs facing off in FIFA 20.
With the COVID-19 pandemic putting a stop to most professional sporting events, video games are doing the heavy lifting. Last month, the F1 Grand Prix took place not in the real world but on Twitch, in F1 2019. Now, the English Premier League is taking to the virtual grounds of FIFA 20.
The opening round begins today at noon BST, with four matches per day in the opening rounds. After the opening rounds, some of these players will move on to the semi-final matches, and final matches on April 25.
The matches will be broadcast on Sky Sports, but also on Facebook and YouTube. It's a knockout tournament played across 19 matches, with players such as Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold, Manchester's Raheem Sterling, and Sheffield's Lys Mousset among the confirmed players.

Then that leads us to April 25 and the finals! The prize itself is being donated to the PlayersTogether initiative which was created by Premier League players to generate funds for the National Health Service and distribute them where they are most needed. This is a brilliant idea. We’re glad to see players still competing while being safe. It’s all going towards a good cause. Hopefully, this will see the English Premier League put on more charity events and/or esports in the future.
